Nino Javakhishvili-Larsen is a senior researcher in human geography and specializes in quantitative research of human interactions to the locational specific characteristics in urban, rural, peripheral, cross-border, and spatio-temporal functional localities, their development, planning, policy, and economic growth. She studies socioeconomic processes that shape different types of localities, their unevenness and heterogenous conditions that implicate how “things” work in one place and do not work in another.

Nino Javakhishvili-Larsen recently joined the Collective Intelligence Group at IT University of Copenhagen in order to pursue this new research area, the study of collective intelligence in the human geography discipline. She believes that the time has come to understand how collective knowledge, active, as well as tacit, contribute to the formation of the communities and how they impact on the development of different types of localities. Application of collective intelligence approach can enhance bottom-up decisions, planning and participation, and become a crucial part of the normality in the era of digitalization and AI.
