Personal profile

Born in Japan, educated in Japan (Keio University, Kyoto University, and the University of Tokyo), US (Carnegie Mellon University) and Denmark (IT University of Copenhagen), I have received international educations from computer science, information science and interaction design.

Currently, my main research is in design science and intercultural collaboration (CSCW), I have applied design methodologies, especially stakeholder involvement methods (from in-depth user studies to co-creation) to design advanced large scale IT systems and services for social challenges in collaboration with international universities, large global companies and public organizations. I have been a leader of those projects.  In 2017, I have a few leading projects with  fx. NTT IDeC and NTT TechnoCross , KDDI Research Inc. and GLOCOM, Japan.

Design methods I am interested in are deeply rooted in Nordic societies and their design tradition.  Understanding society and people in Nordic region is critical, which lead me to conduct wider research on Denmark, Norway, Finland, Iceland and Greenland. Since 2012, I have appointed as a JETRO external consultant in Nordic regions.
