Organisation profile

The Responsible Infrastructuring group works with an understanding of design of IT and services as engaging, intervening and including, that always involves people, non-human participants and empirical settings. We embrace a critical stance towards both techno-centric and social engineering perspectives. Our preferred design approaches are inventive and aligned with participants’ matters of concern and care. We are interested not only in ‘cutting edge’ IT but also ‘blunt edge’ technologies ranging from artifacts to infrastructures. In our study of digitalization and IT practices, we pay attention to the assemblages of tools and technologies that people bring together and enact as meaningful configurations. Responsible Infrastructuring accounts for values, ethics and politics inherent in design across the range from participants’ situated, everyday practices to the broader and longer-term scopes of social and environmental wellbeing and sustainability.
