In a world that constantly requires faster response times and faster access to larger and larger volumes of business data, data systems are essential. The data systems are the computer systems in the data centers that enable the handling and analysis of large amounts of data. This data underlies data-intensive applications, such as big data analytics, self-driving cars, and algorithmic trading.
The research areas of ITU's Data-intensive Systems and Applications range widely from the Internet of Things to storage systems and hardware / software ecosystems.
