    Abstract

How is the future imagined and made in the mobile telecoms industry, and how might it be made otherwise? This paper is an experiment in future-making. It enacts a method called ‘future archaeology’ to reconstruct fragments of ethnographic evidence from the mobile telecoms industry. The reconstruction is an explicit intervention into the durability and locality of mobile telecoms futures. It is an ethnographic imaginary enacted here, in this paper, to explore how the future of the mobile telecoms industry is made, and to speculate how it might be made otherwise.
