Abstract

Designers have always played an important role in shaping visions of the future. Throughout the western world they have brought issues of aestetic expression and common well being back to society by linking contemporary design and architecture with the arts and crafts of popular culture. Strong design communities have embraced the new possibilities of modern technology and developled design programmes that are able to express the aspirations and potential of the modern welfare state. Today new changes and challenges call for an enqually courageous formation of design communities with the courage to let go of the old and take on the creation of the new.
