Research areas

My scientific interests are within algorithms and data structures. In the past I have worked extensively on basic questions in information retrieval and the role of randomness in computing. More recently I have worked on problems with applications in databases and knowledge discovery, as well as the exploitation of parallelism in modern computer architectures. I have taught extensively on database technology, as well as on construction of software that makes efficient use of resources through use of good algorithms. See my home page for more information.
