Fakes, fabrications and counterfeits

Activity: Participating in or organising an event typesOrganisation and participation in workshop, seminar, course

Description

There are practices and products in Global Health that fall somewhere on the spectrum between ‘real’ and ‘fake’, examples of which are not only fake drugs but also substandard low quality ‘official’ drugs; socio-political interests undermining health strategies; fake diagnostics in relation to medical prescription behaviour; mixed medicine bags containing combinations of real drugs in lower dosages for all sorts of fevers; and… predatory journals. A workshop aiming to encourage academic outputs on practices and products in pseudo-Global Health took place at ITM last week. It was coordinated by the Ethox Centre, University of Oxford; the Amsterdam Institute for Social Science Research; and Instituut voor Tropische Geneeskunde | Institute of Tropical Medicine
