Description

Arts in the Environment Symposium is a multidisciplinary, international and contemporary art symposium that focuses on the intersection between environmental art and sciences. Arts in the Environment Symposium will take place August 31, 2017 – September 2, 2017 in venues throughout Helsinki, Finland. The Artist Camp for the artists will take August 25 – September 3, 2017.

The symposium’s program will introduce and provide an overview of the field and will also create a platform for common analysis, reflection, speculation and discussion regarding the already existing or possible environmental, socio-political implications and transformations occurring alongside the most recent artistic developments.

Arts in the Environment – Nordic Symposium is working in close collaboration with various artistic, scientific and other communities in Helsinki and bringing them together with international key figures from the arts and humanities for research and reflection on environmental art. The Symposium will thus create a transdisciplinary platform for presentations, experimentation, encounters and discussions. A variety of approaches and points of departure in this progressing field of research and artistic reflection will be presented through panel discussions, art installations and performances and workshops. The objective of the Symposium is to create a range of possibilities for the visitors and participants to discover and experiment, as well as the chance to interact with professionals and other passionate researchers and creatives from various backgrounds.
