Abstract

This document is some first notes and reflections on how we in the pilot project (Un)situated Design Practice, earlier entitled as Open/Entangled Material Workshops, has gained new insights through our engagement with the PLANET MA1 students in the course ‘Preferred futures’.
The pilot project was first framed as an interrogation of how “designing for sustainable futures has blurred the boundaries of the contemporary design workshop practice from being linked to specific disciplines and traditional materials to explorations of new materials, workshop practices and design outcomes.
The project focus is the design workshop – the specific place and space used by designers for working with physical materials and making prototypes.”1
In the following we will reflect upon the insights we gained and the new challenges, questions and research directions we could take with us from this first phase.
