Anna Brynskov’s PhD project is to investigate sexual technologies in relation to physical disability through design. By exploring previous collaborative and speculation-based design methods and by seeking out new ones, the goal is to contribute to shaping the aesthetics of future sexual technologies in a direction of inclusion and curiosity. Her project proposes Critical Optimism as a useful design direction for this. Critical Optimism carries an optimist vision of representing alienated bodies in future design of sexual technologies. The aim of her project is therefore, in a broader sense, to develop more caring and inclusive strategies for the design of future technologies in realms of sexuality, through design.
