Beskrivelse

Can we consider making a way of paying attention? As designers, we get to stand next to the machine/system and ask, what else can you do? In the assemblage of feminist making, we collaborate not just with each other, but with the machines, materials, software, and time/drudgery. By working from a starting point of personal knowledge and commitments, we ground our research practice in values and positions that are both personally meaningful and collectively progressive. This allows us to make at the edge of what we know, as a way to engage with the uncertain, ephemeral, and undone.

Bio: Kristina Andersen is associate professor at the Department of Industrial Design at TU/e. Her work is concerned with how we can allow each other to imagine our possible futures through digital craftsmanship and material practices. She is especially interested in knowledge production through making physical manifestations of intangible concerns. This forms part of a broader research aim to develop design research methods for times of uncertainty through engagements with material, machinery, and processes.
